Acne is a disorder of the sebaceous glands which secrete oil onto the skin and which lie in the dermis, the layer of skin just under the epidermis (surface layer). Acne is caused when dried sebum, flaked skin and bacteria collect in skin pores forming a "plug" which blocks the oil from flowing up through the pores. If this blockage is incomplete, a blackhead appears; if the blockage is complete, a whitehead appears. At the same time, bacteria can grow in the plugged pores, further irritating the condition. These irritated blackheads and whiteheads produce what is commonly known as acne. If left untreated, or if the infection and irritation gets worse, an abscess may form.
When the pores are blocked and pimples and pus-filled blisters (pustules) form without abscesses, the condition is called superficial acne; when inflamed pimples erupt downward into the underlying skin and pus-filled cysts appear or develop into abscesses, the condition is called deep acne. In deep acne, the infection may spread, causing red, raised, inflamed areas, cysts and abscesses which may rupture or leave scars.
The lifecycle of a pimple can be up to eight weeks without treatment.
To help control acne, start with a good cleanser. Our Active Cleansing Gel contains the triple exfoliating action of Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, and Salicylic Acid.
To deep clean your skin without exfoliating, use a cleanser containing no exfoliants, such as our deep cleaning Whipped Camphor Cleanser.

The strategy is to start with a nightly treatment product, such as the Exfol Serum 8% Glyoclic Acid, or the 15% Glycolic Treatment Gel.
Exfoliation lifts and removes the top layer of dead skin cells, revealing fresher, smoother skin, and deep cleans the pores keeping them free of debris which can build up and cause acne.
The Copper Peptide Serum actually removes damaged proteins from the skin, and regenerates a layer of collagen and elastin deep in the skin to tighten and repair the skin. This makes the pores and scars look a lot smoother.
The Copper Peptide works best when combined with an exfoliating products such as Glycolic Acid, so you get the double action of the Glycolic Acid working on the top layers of skin to speed cell turnover and rejuvenating the skin, while the Copper Peptide is working deep in the skin to repair and regenerate new skin.
After several weeks of using the Glyoclic Acid Treatment Gel every night, you might want to add a weekly Glycolic Acid Peel at the 30% strength.
To control your acne, and at the same time treat treat and reduce acne scars, combine the Copper-Peptide Serum or the TriReduction Protect & Restore Basic with a Glycolic Acid Peel Kit or a Glycolic Acid Treatment Product.
Combining a Glycolic Acid Peel or a 15% Glycolic Acid Treatment Gel with a Copper Peptide product (The Copper Peptide Serum or TriReduction Basic Cream) will help to stimulate cell turnover and skin regeneration, thereby producing more vibrant and clearer skin even faster than with one product alone.
Simply mix a small amount of both together and apply a thin layer to the skin.
The oil-free Copper Peptide Serum is best mixed with the oil-free 15% Glycolic Acid Gel or the Exfol Serum.
Another great product to use daily to control acne is the GlyMed Serious Action Skin Peeling Lotion. It contains the proven acne fighters of Sulfer, Salicylic Acid and Resorcinol.
