During aging, skin proteins accumulate damage from many causes - sun damage, free radical injuries, natural aging, and so on. Recent research has established that copper-peptide complexes remove damaged proteins such as damaged collagen and elastin. Clinical studies have found copper-peptides - such as used in skin renewal creams - to be more effective in restoring the skin's collagen than Vitamin C or retinoic acid (retin-A). Collagen and elastin are rebuilt, giving you a firmer, more elastic skin. The skin's internal water-holding proteins are increased (true moisturization), and the size of the skin's sexual pheromone secreting apocrine glands are increased.
Copper-peptides help activate your skin's system that removes damaged collagen and elastin from the skin. Furthermore, copper-peptide creams have been proven faster and better than Kinerase(TM) in improving skin texture, reducing blotchiness, and reducing fine wrinkles. When creams containing copper-peptides are applied to the skin, only very small amounts of the copper-peptides penetrate into the skin. Copper-peptides have passed numerous safety tests. Not all Copper Peptide products are alike!
Some Copper Peptide products do not contain a sufficient amount of Copper Peptide to be effective, while other Copper Peptide products do not contain an effective type of Copper Peptide complex at all!
Certain Copper Peptide products will degenerate quickly and thus become ineffective, or they will break down on the skin when combined with other skin carfe products and become ineffective!

Not all copper-peptides and copper-complexes have these actions. A number of companies sell copper complexes purported to help skin but there is no credible scientific evidence (such as peer-reviewed publications in dermatology journals) that these complexes give effective skin regeneration.
These products have been tested and found to have only marginal activity at best. Most had no activity and some actually inhibited skin renewal. Some are made with yeast and bacteria peptides that may cause allergic reactions.
The copper peptide complex must contain a particular peptide, GHK-Cu [N(2)-(N-Glycyl-L-histidyl)-L-lysine] in order for the skin to absorb it correctly. Many Copper Creams on the market today either do not contain this particular Copper Peptide Complex, or do not contain an adequate amount of the Copper Peptide complex to be effective.

The best Protect & Restore cream for you depends on your skin type, stage of life, and personal life style. Because of such personal skin variations, P&R is formulated in various versions. The Copper Peptide Serum and the P&R Classic are the most basic copper-peptide versions. Copper Peptide Serum is oil-free and is the most basic formula without any added ingredients. Because of the very simple ingredients and oil-free formula, it is great for oily skin and sensitive skin. The P&R Classic is also great for sensitive skin because the formula is also free of added ingredients which could irritate sensitive skin. It is also the best formula to start out with if you are unsure of your skin's reaction to a new product.
P&R with Retinol and Oil of Lavender is the strongest anti-wrinke cream and contains a high retinol concentration and oil of lavender.
Younger persons under age 30 should start with P&R Classic or Copper Peptide Serum. Many people, especially over age 30, have found the strongest P&R with Retinol and Oil of Lavender to be the best at improving facial appearance and skin tone. Some find P&R with Retinol and Oil of Lavender will clear chronic acne in a few weeks. However, in some people, (about 7%), P&R with Retinol and Oil of Lavender may cause skin outbreaks which could be due to the retinol or an overall stimulation of the skin’s metabolism.
We generally recommend starting with P&R Classic or Copper Peptide Serum. If you later want more skin renewal and anti-wrinkle activity, try the P&R with Retinol, which is the strongest cream and also good for reducing scars and stretch marks (although for stretch marks and scars, we recommend the TriReduction creams).
The addition of Retinol to the Copper Peptide products is a further boost to anti-aging. Vitamin A/Retinol helps to remove wrinkles but mainly by reducing collagen/elastin degradation. A protein complex called AP-1 produces the enzymes that break apart and degrade collagen and elastin, the major structural materials in skin. Retinol increases the wrinkle reduction but also may increase acne outbreaks.
The need for different versions of P&R is similar to the use of different versions of Retin-A or Hydroxy Acids for people with different skin types.
The oil of lavender has soothing effects on the skin. Oil of Lavender was used on wounds in ancient Greece and Rome over 2,000 years ago. Today it is widely used in clinical wound-treatment products. In one placebo-controlled blinded study of 635 women, it was found that the application of oil of lavender to the outer birth canal resulted in much less pain and discomfort after childbirth. Do not use P&R with Oil of lavender if you are sensitive to Oil of Lavender. Use the P&R Classic instead.
All versions of P&R are compatible when used with alpha hydroxy acids (such as Glycolic Acid) and retin-A. However, some have reported that P&R is not compatible with certain skin cleansers, especially if they are not completely removed from the skin. P&R should not be used at the same time as vitamin C creams since the copper-peptide inactivate the vitamin C.
Combining a Glycolic Acid Peel or a Glycolic Acid Treatment Cream with a Copper Peptide product will help to stimulate cell turnover and skin regeneration, thereby producing more vibrant and smoother-looking skin even faster than with one product alone.
Exfoliation is a proven skin regeneration treatment and combining an exfoliation product with a Copper Peptide Product will speed your results.
Combining a Copper Peptide Product with a Glycolic Acid Product will help to stimulate and speed collagen and elastin production, thereby producing faster results for smoother-looking skin. Simply mix a small amount of both together and apply a thin layer to the skin.
For best results, mix any of the Protect & Restore Creams with the 10% or 15% Glycolic Acid Creams, or any of the GlyMed Glycolic Acid Treatment Products (The GlyMed products contain high strenghts of Glycolic and Lactic Acid).
The oil-free Copper Peptide Serum is best mixed with the oil-free 15% Glycolic Acid Gel, the Exfol Serum, or the GlyMed AHA Accelerator.
